To address dental emergencies, Lightwood Dental is pleased to offer same-day dental appointments for existing and new patients. This means we’re ready to provide urgent, efficient solutions to relieve your pain during a dental crisis.

Types of Dental Emergencies We See

A dental emergency can rear its head unexpectedly. At our practice, we regularly encounter emergencies that include:

  • Chipped or knocked-out teeth
  • Broken fillings or dental work
  • Damaged or broken dentures
  • Toothaches
  • Bleeding or injured gums
  • Abscessed teeth

The Importance of Acting Quickly

When faced with a dental emergency, swift action is crucial. The sooner we can intervene, particularly within the initial hour of a tooth being broken or knocked out, the higher our chances of preserving and stabilising it.

If a tooth has been knocked out, storing it in a sealed container submerged in milk or contact solution is crucial. Adults could also place the tooth inside their cheek en route to our clinic. This keeps the tooth moist with saliva. However, be sure to avoid swallowing it inadvertently. Equally important – refrain from scrubbing the tooth clean, as this could potentially damage certain minute structures required for reinserting.

Tending to a Toothache

If you experience a toothache, clean your mouth by rinsing it with warm water. If your mouth is swollen, apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek. Do not apply heat or any kind of aspirin or topical painkiller directly against the gums near the aching tooth, as it may burn the gum tissue.

Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen can help reduce pain, but it’s important to see a dentist as soon as possible to identify and treat the underlying cause of the toothache to prevent further complications.

A Solution That Doesn’t Look at the Clock

We understand that a dental emergency doesn’t follow a 9-to-5 office protocol. That’s why Lightwood Dental is ready for you even outside of traditional office hours, including select evenings and weekends. So if you experience a dental emergency, we’re here for you!

Call (03) 9758 2099 immediately; our outstanding team will provide the immediate care and pain relief you need.
