Your trusted family dentists at Lightwood Dental wants you to maximize this wonderful government initiative towards your child’s perfect oral health.
What Is The Child Dental Benefit Schedule?
The Child Dental Benefit Schedule or CBDS is a government-funded program to shoulder the dental fees of Australian children between 2 to 17 years old.
There are certain eligibility basics to the program. Aside from the age bracket, your child should also be enrolled in Medicare and your family should receive certain government payments for at least part of the calendar year.
What Are The Lightwood Dental Services Under CBDS?
At Lightwood Dental, you can claim up to $1000 for each child over two consecutive years.
The following are the exceptional child dental services from Lightwood Dental that you can enjoy under CDBS:
- Dental examinations
- Professional cleaning
- Fissure sealing
- Tooth fillings
- Root canal treatments
- Tooth extractions
It is important to know the dental services that are not covered by CBDS:
- Orthodontic dental work
- Cosmetic surgery (Teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, smile makeover, Invisalign)
- Any services done in a hospital
The two-calendar year coverage starts when your child gets their first dental service. If you haven’t used the full $1000 in the first year, you can use the remainder during the second year if your child remains eligible.
At the end of the two years, you cannot continue to use the remaining amount of the $1000. You can however, start another two-calendar year period if your child is still eligible.
Is Your Child Eligible?
As mentioned above, there are basic eligibility requirements to CBDS: age, enrolment in Medicare, and your family should receive certain governmental payments for at least some part of the calendar year. If your children pass all the requirements, you will receive a letter from Medicare.
The following are some qualifying Australian government payments:
- Parenting Payment
- Youth Allowance
- Family Tax Benefit
- Disability support pension
- Carer payment
- Special Benefit
- Veteran’s Children Education Scheme (if child is 16 or older)
- Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act Education and Training Scheme (if child is 16 or older)
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule will continue in 2017
In the news:
The Australian Dental Association (ADA) has applauded announcement by the Turnbull Government and its Health Minister, Greg Hunt, to reinstate the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) cap to $1,000.
